The German-Canadian Yearbook provides an open and unbiased forum for the presentation of and research into German Canadiana past and present and the relations between Canada and the German-speaking countries. The term "Germans" is used in the linguistic, ethnic sense of the word. The book is undoubtedly a major contribution to ethnic studies which recently gained widespread importance in Canada. The editor and numerous contributors in this country and abroad endeavored to present an accurate, colorful and easily comprehensive picture of German-Canadian history from the beginning to the present day. The articles are written in a style which is attractive not only to scholars but also to the public at large. Articles are accepted in English, German and French.

The Yearbook is divided into several sections. Section I contains contributions of a more general nature, dealing with such problems as historical research, Canadian identity, multiculturalism, ethnic studies, etc. The following two sections consist of articles about German-Canadiana in the fields of history, sociology, linguistics, literature and art. In Section IV, the reader will find short biographies of important German Canadians of the past and present which are to lay the foundation of a dictionary of "German-Canadian Biography". Much space is devoted to the next section, the documentation part of the book which features reports written by Germans about German pioneer life and literary works by German-Canadians. "German Heritage" is the heading of Section VI; on the occasion of anniversaries there are short accounts of outstanding Germans and their effect on Canada. In Section VII, German-Canadian organizations report on their histories and present activities. The last two sections contain book reviews and bibliographies.
